What's Happening in April at MCC Lacrosse

April marks the official start of the Field Lacrosse season in Victoria with MCC Lacrosse’s first Junior and Senior games scheduled for the weekend of the 27th/28th April. If you can’t wait that long for the lacrosse action to start, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Lacrosse Victoria are hosting the LV Sixes Olympic Cup for U18 and State League Men ahead of the official season.

The LV Sixes Olympic Cup begins 6th April with teams competing in two divisions on the 6th, 13th and 20th at various locations around the city. Our MCC Senior Men are in the South-East Division and will be taking on Caulfield, Camberwell, Chadstone, Surrey Park and Malvern. Winners of the South-East and North-West (Brunswick, Altona, Eltham, Williamstown, Footscray and the U18 Victorian team) Divisions will meet for the LV Sixes Olympic Cup on the 21st April at The Albert Ground. Be sure to check out our socials for the time and location of these games. This is a great chance to support our State League Men and also find out what Lacrosse Sixes is all about.

Lacrosse Sixes is the most recent version of lacrosse to be developed, and is a fast-paced, no-contact sport that combines the most exciting elements of field and box lacrosse. As suggested by its name, six players per team are on the field at any given time with each team consisting of 14 players in total. There are no specialist positions in Sixes other than the goalie. Sixes lacrosse is played outside on a 70 x 36 m grass or turf field. Each game lasts for 45 minutes with four quarters each 8 minutes in length. Draws only take place at the start of each quarter and the 30 second shot clock ensures the non-stop, high-scoring action of the game.

Lacrosse Sixes was featured in The World Games 2022 for both Men and Women, while the inaugural World Lacrosse Sixes Championships will take place in 2026. Lacrosse will return to the Olympics in 2028 in the form of Sixes, the first time lacrosse will have made an appearance in the Olympics since it was played in 1904 and 1908, and held as a demonstration event in 1928, 1932 and 1948.

We can’t wait for the 2024 season to begin!
